Leroy Sanders, son of the late Henry and Ida Mae Sanders, reared by Robert ‘Bubba’ Dow, was born on July 18, 1948, on Yonges Island in Charleston, SC. He received his education in the public school system of Clarendon County, SC.
Leroy, affectionately known as ‘Polecat’, was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church. He possessed a profound love for fishing and could always be counted on to help others when they needed it to clean or filet their catch of the day.
Leroy was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lee Bowman, and two brothers, Jesse ‘Catman’ Sanders and Alfonzo ‘Doc’ Sanders.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, two daughters, Lucrista Johnson of New York, NY and Lee Ann Bowman of Summerton, SC; Maxine (Stan) Days of High Point, NC, and Richard Bowman of Daytona Beach, FL, both whom he reared as his own; fifteen grandchildren; one brother, James Sanders of Summerton, SC; one sister, Evelena Sanders Green of Columbia, SC; a special friend, Victoria Bowman of Summerton, SC; a special niece, Patricia Smiling of Manning, SC; a special great-niece, Erica L. Bowman of Columbia, SC, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thank you to McLeod Hospice Care Staff - Kari, Marci, Jake and Melody.
