Katherine (Rhames) Robinson

Katherine Rhames Robinson was born in the home of her parents the late George and Malevenia Rhames on October 21, 1955. As a happy child, she would always have her own way of making others laugh. From childhood, family and friends knew her as “Benia”. After graduating from Scott’s Branch High School in 1973, Katherine moved to New York where she worked as a nurse and later as a home nurse.

Katherine married her husband, Isaac “Bobby” Robinson, on July 3, 1986. After years of living in the Big Apple, Katherine and Isaac decided to move back home in December 2001. She and her husband went on to join her home church St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Silver, SC.

From a young woman, and into adulthood, Katherine developed her own unique sense of style that always made her stand out. Her outfits would be stylish, and she would rarely be seen without a fresh wig and her signature red lipstick. Although wigs were a favorite part of her look, Katherine wore her hair in dreadlocks for many years. Over the years, the Robinsons opened their home to a host of relatives, friends, and foster children. She especially had a love for family and children. Katherine also had a passion for cooking, and everyone especially loved her and Isaac’s famous macaroni and cheese. Ever the fighter, Mrs. Robinson even put death on hold just long enough for her to go when she was ready.

She departed this earthly life on August 9, 2019 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Ella and Ben Robinson; a son, Justin Robinson; three sisters, Lillian Wilder, Roberta Rhames, and Mary Lee Pearson; a brother, George Rhames Jr.; a brother-in-law, Charlie Robinson; four sisters-in-law, Louise Keitt, Ethel Lyles, Rebecca Carson and Dorothy Lyles, and a very special nephew, Wayne Robinson.

Katherine leaves many to cherish a lifetime of memories: Her husband, Isaac Robinson; her son, Jason Robinson; a daughter, Tracy Robinson; three adopted children, Antonio Tasher, Jasmiona Lang and Josia Lang; three sisters, Ida (Harry) Felder, Barbara Rhames, Carrie Rhames; a brother, Frank Rhames; a brother-in-law, Quincy (Gladys) Robinson; two sisters-in-law,  Daisy Barnette and Pearline (King) Robinson; God-children, Sandra James, Yvonne Lang, Elizabeth Solomon, Monteque Rhames, and Antonio Felder and a host of family, friends, and neighbors.
