Hattie Mae Washington Benbow was born on February 10, 1928 in Clarendon County to the late Eliza Frank and Johnny Washington.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and experiencing events such as family cookouts, celebrating holidays and taking vacations. In addition to spending time with her family she enjoyed going shopping and attending church.
Hattie was married to the late Moses “Son” Benbow, Sr.
In her earlier years she also worked as an independent contractor, as a chef in family homes in South Carolina. Later, Hattie was employed by Saint Elizabeth Hospital Office of Outplace Service in the Department of Food that was established in June 23,1987. On June 25, 1988 she was employed by the Government of District of Columbia Department of Regulations Administration in the Department of Food service and continued working with the Government of the District of Columbia Adult Service Administration in the Food Service Department until she retired on June 20,1990.
On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Hattie Mae Washington Benbow entered into eternal rest at the age of 92 Forestville, MD. In addition to her parents and husband she is proceeded in death by Jeannette James, James Henry Benbow, Johnny Benbow and Mosses Benbow Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Oree Benbow, Anthony (Patricia) Benbow, Tyrone (Lolita) Robinson and Joseph ”Rock” (Donna) Robinson; a son-in-law, Samuel “Sam” James; nine grandchildren, Kimberly James, Keshia James, Antron Benbow, Toni Benbow, Bobby Benbow, Tony Benbow, Eric Moses, Kayonna Morgan and Joseph Robinson Jr.; a sister, Carry Franks and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
