Harvey White, Jr., son of the late Harvey White, Sr. and Amanda Lavenia Stukes White was born in Clarendon County on March 7, 1943. In 1961, at the age of 18, Harvey moved to Maryland and worked as a cook.
In 1963, Harvey moved to New York City and met the love of his life in 1964. On March 30, 1965, he married Eloise Brailsford of Summerton, SC, who had also moved to New York.
Harvey worked at the Candy Factory for several years. Then obtaining a job at the Bellevue Hospital for 30 years in various capacities including; housekeeping, elevator operator, nurses aid and working with the hospital children. He was known to all who worked with at Bellevue Hospital as PaPa White.
Harvey so loved the Lord; he became an active member of First Corinthian Baptist Church of New York for over 40 years. Upon retiring in 2003 and relocating back to Summerton, SC, he joined the Historic Liberty Hill A. M. E. Church of Summerton, where he was welcomed with open arms and pledged to the Son’s of Allen Brotherhood Ministry. In 1973, he had another passion associated to the Lord and pledged an oath with King Solomon Grand Temple of Prince Hall in which he was an active member for over 20 years.
On Thursday, December 19, 2019, Harvey White, Jr. entered into eternal rest at Mcleod Health Clarendon in Manning, SC. He preceded in death by one sister, Christian Frost and a brother, Robert Lee White.
He leaves to cherish his memories; two sons, Andre (Sandra) White and Matthew Nicholas White both of New York; one daughter, Valerie White of New York; three grandchildren, Antoinette Nicole White, Thomas Meleke Porter and Tarae Mende Porter all of New York; one great grand, Jada Khamora Porter of New York; t wo brothers, Joseph C. White of Wedgefield, SC and Henry Murray (Daisy) White of Pinewood, SC; two sisters, Ernestine Adams of Bronx, NY and Virginia Cowart of Long Island, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Sleep on father and take your rest. We all love you, but God loves you best.
