Faye Louise Smith-Lawson was born on Thursday, February 15, 1934, in Summerton, South Carolina, the oldest of three, to the late Charlie M. Ragin and Rose Smith.
She attended the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Historic Scott’s Branch High School in 1951.
"Ms. Faye" was a life-long, dedicated member and loyal supporter of Historic Liberty Hill A. M. E. Church. Her church affiliations included but were not limited to, the Usher Board, Class Leader, Stewardess Board, Missionary Society, Willing Workers, and a member of the Gospel Choir.
"Ms. Faye", as she was affectionately known possessed a sweet, loving, kind, and generous spirit. She was known by many and loved by all who knew her. "Ms.Faye" believed in the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". She was a homemaker and was also employed by Clarendon School District One where she worked in Food Services and served as a Foster Grandparent for several years. Mrs. Lawson loved her community and was a faithful community volunteer.
"Ms. Faye" was the dedicated wife of the late Henry Lawson for more than sixty years. This marriage was blessed with four children.
On Thursday, May 14, 2020, Mrs. Faye Smith-Lawson peacefully entered into eternal rest at her residence. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Arnold V. Lawson, and a brother, Luther Ragin.
Her fond memories will be cherished by her devoted daughters, Kathleen L. Gibson and Cassandra Lawson, both of Summerton, SC and Debra L. (Keith) Peterson of Stockbridge, GA; five grandchildren, Phillip Lawson of New York City, Daren (Shirley) Ragin and Derrell Ragin of Summerton, SC, Richard (Tameka) Ragin of Columbia, SC and Kameron Peterson of Stockbridge, GA; one sister, Ernestine Smith Bell of Baltimore, MD; one sister-in-law, Minnie Smith of Bronx, NY; three special cousins, Willene Smith Doctor of Alexandria, VA, Steven (Mollie) Connor of Thomasville, NC and Thomasine Smith Gibson of Summerton, SC; three special nieces, Mary (Abraham) Livingston and Dorothy Martin of New York City and Daisy (Eddie) Johnson of Baltimore, MD; one special nephew, William (Ethel) Lawson of Yonkers, New York; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; her caregiver, Mary Singleton and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
