Her Life: Life; like each season has a beauty of its own seeds are planted, they sprout, they blossom, and now they are gone.
On Thursday afternoon, July 23, 2020 Essie Mae James went home to be with the Lord.
Essie Mae James was the oldest child of the late Mr. Leon (Sweet) James Sr. and Charlotte Stinney-James. She was born August 22, 1951 in Summerton, South Carolina. She attended St. Paul Elementary School and home school due to an automobile accident she was not able to further her education.
She relocated from Summerton, South Carolina to Richmond, Virginia, then back to Summerton, South Carolina, where she longed to be close to home. She was a resident of Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton, South Carolina until her passing at Mcleod Health Clarendon Hospital Manning, South Carolina.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and brother John Henry James.
She loved the Lord, gospel music, and singing. Her favorite star was the great Al Green. She was loved by everyone near and far. She never let the limitations of her disability stopped her from living a happy life. She loved her family and attending church services. Essie had a great sense of humor, beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and a quick comeback.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Joycestine (Paul) Adams of New York City, New York, Joanne James of Richmond, Virginia, Susan (Gary) Coleman of Hopewell, Virginia, and two brothers Leon (Leola) James of Morrow, Georgia, Anthony James of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, along with nieces, nephews, many loving cousins and friends.
