Eloise (Brailsford) White

Eloise (Bay) Brailsford White daughter of the late Mr. Hugh Brailsford Sr. And Margaret Elizabeth Stukes. Brailsford was born in Clarendon County, Summerton, South Carolina on April 28, 1941.

Eloise received her education in Liberty Hill Public Schools, where she became a proud graduate of Scott’s Branch High School in Summerton, South Carolina.

In 1963, she moved to New York City to join her sister Edith Ragin. She met the love of her life in 1964. On March 30, 1965, she married Mr. Harvey White Jr., of Panola, SC, who also moved to New York. This union was blessed with 3 sons, Andre, Ross (preceded in death), Matthew, and a daughter, Valarie.

Eloise worked at Pearline’s Costume Jewely Company where she mastered the craft and became a jeweler. She loved making jewelry and always bragged on her skills. She then became a manager within the company.

She had such an extraordinary personality which made her a scintillating individual whom was loved by all who knew and met her; young and old. She always gave a smile to go along with her warm hugs along with her love for one another. She so loved the Lord and became a member of First Corinthian Baptist Church. She was active on the usher board, the nurses aide, and the florist club where she served as treasurer. She helped with fundraising, organizing bus trips, selling cakes and dinners. Upon retiring and relocating back to Summerton, SC in 2003, she joined the Historical Liberty Hill AME Church and was an active member with the usher, stewardess, and missionary board.  She was an avid member for 22 years.

On January 29, 2021, Eloise lost her battle with heart attacks and entered into eternal rest at McCleod Regional Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. In addition to her husband, parents and son, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Willie Lee Brailsford and two sisters, Dorothy and Edith Ragin.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Andre (Sandra) White and Matthew Nicholas White, both of New York; a daughter, Valarie White of New York; four grandchildren, Antionette Nicole White, Thomas Meleke Porter, and Tarae Mendi Porter, all of New York, and Kieviet (William) Driskell of Summerville, SC; a brother, Hugh Brailsford Jr.; one sister, Yvonne (Ernest) Green of New York; two brothers-in-law, Henry (Daisy) Murray White of Pinewood, SC and Joseph C. White of Wedgefield, SC; three sisters-in-law, Earnestine Adams and Virginia Cowart of New York, Letha White of Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
