April Ann Dowd-Evans was born on born on Thursday, April 29, 1965, in Nash County, Rocky Mount, North Carolina to Joyce Livingston Davis and the late Robert Dowd.
Her education began in the Rocky Mount public schools. As a teenager, she relocated to New Jersey and graduated from Lakewood Senior High School in Lakewood, NJ.
After returning to North Carolina she was blessed with her first-born son, Shelton. Although April was diagnosed with schizophrenia, she did not let it stop her from moving forward with life. Her blessings continued when she gave birth to her first daughter, Shannon and then another son, Jamal.
She was employed at Rocky Mount Undergarment and Stony Creek as a production worker. Around this time April met and married Jimmie Evans. This union was blessed with three children: Olivia, Dywanda, and Lil Jimmie.
April loved all her children, it brought her so much joy to see and spend time with each of them. Her hobbies were arts and crafts, as well as collecting baby dolls and books. With so much joy, she brought laughter to everyone who encountered her. She loved life and wanted everyone to live their life to the fullest. She was amazingly simple in her approach to life and cherished the little things. She enjoyed cooking and serving others. She was very independent and always wanted to do things on her own even in the decline of her health.
Her last days were spent surrounded by those who loved and cared for her. Even then she did not want anyone’s help. She was still strong-willed and determined. On Wednesday, April 22, 2020 with her children by her side, April Evans entered into eternal rest at her residence in Columbia, South Carolina.
