Roscoe Swinton departed his life after an extended illness on October 10, 2024, at his Timmonsville, South Carolina home. He was surrounded by his family.
Roscoe was born on April 17, 1943, in Timmonsville, South Carolina, to Edith Swinton Johnson and Burrell Gee.
Roscoe attended the public schools of Florence County and was a 1962 graduate of Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina. He was previously employed at Wellman Industries in Darlington, South Carolina, and was the owner and operator of Swinton's Wrecker Services until he retired.
Roscoe was a member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Crown Masonic Lodge No 383.
Preceding Roscoe in death were his father Burrell Gee, his mother Edith Swinton Johnson, his daughter Tamalar Sanders, his granddaughter Christen Ezekiel, and his brothers James "Ronnie" Johnson and Azell Gee.
Left to cherish his love and memories are his children: Pansy (Christopher) Ezekiel of Effingham, South Carolina; Roscoe (Nancy) James of El Paso, Texas; and Marcus (Temika) Swinton of Timmonsville, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Maurice "Rain" Burrell of Effingham, South Carolina, Cherise Ezekiel of Florence, South Carolina, Catrice Ezekiel of Riverdale, Georgia, and McKinley Swinton of Timmonsville, South Carolina; Khaleh James and Dhani James of El Paso, Texas; Diantre James and Kiantie James of Raleigh, North Carolina; a sister, Dorothy (Willie Lee) Jones of Timmonsville, South Carolina; three brothers, Joenathan (Marlene) Johnson of Timmonsville, South Carolina, Don Gee and Tommy (Brenda) Gee of Florence, South Carolina; sisters-in-law Arva Marie Johnson of Laurel, Maryland, and Brenda Gee of Florence, South Carolina; a son-in-law Steve Sanders of Raleigh, North Carolina; a friend of the family Ella Hughes Swinton, a special cousin/brother Willie Lee "Stucky" Jackson, a special son, William McElveen, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to Tammy Cain and Shelia Goodman for being excellent caregivers.
