Miss Mazie James exchanged time for eternity on Monday, April 21, 2025, at her residence in Summerton, SC.

Born in Clarendon County on December 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Douck Ragin and the late Inez James Brailsford.

As a young woman, Mazie attended and received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. Mazie was employed by numerous hotels in the Summerton area.

In her youth, Mazie accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church, Summerton, South Carolina. Mazie served on the choir and the Stewardess Board.

Mazie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She spent many days and nights caring for and sharing laughs with her grandchildren and other children that she opened her heart to and loved as her own.

Her memorable moments will be cherished by two sons, Tarone (Quiwanna) James of Greenville, SC and Keith (Keisha) James of Manning, SC.; two sisters, Catherine Blanding of Summerton, SC and Sarah Barber of Sumter, SC.; a dear friend, Justine Canty; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; five specials children she loved as her own grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, two sons, Lester James and Robert James, one sister Belphine James, four brothers, Allen James, Freddie Gipson, Pearlie James and Morris Brailsford preceded her in death.
